Adam and Eve falling into sin does not mean that the Lord tempted them to sin James , nor that the Lord is the author of sin. Biblical history can be divided into three main sections: First, paradise Genesis , paradise lost Genesis 3 - Revelation 20 , and lastly, paradise regained Revelation The largest part of Scripture is from paradise lost to paradise regained.
At the center of the story of paradise lost is the Cross and Resurrection of the Lord Jesus planned from the very beginning Genesis ; Acts The Lord was not surprised by the Fall, for it was foreknown by God just as the cross was foreordained by God. The Lord God created the world in which His glory would be manifest in all its fullness. The goal of the Creation was to display the glory of God, which is also the goal of everything He does.
The universe was created to showcase the glory of God Psalm , and the wrath of God is revealed against those who fail to glorify God Romans Without the Fall of Man, there is no way for man to know the glory of God or the grace of God. Adam falling into sin displays the mercy of God by not killing him on the spot. The patience of God was on display later as humanity fell deeper and deeper into sin. The justice and wrath of God were demonstrated when the Lord sent the Flood, and the mercy and grace of God displayed when the Lord saved Noah and his family.
The holy wrath and perfect justice of God will be seen in the future when He deals with Satan once and for all Revelation Knowledge of the love of God comes from the person and saving work of Jesus Christ 1 John If the Lord had not created Adam and Eve based on His knowledge of the Fall or if He had made them robots with no free will, there would be no way for man to know the love of God.
The ultimate demonstration of the love of God occurred at the Cross, where the wrath, justice, and mercy of God meet. The love and grace of God are manifest in those who are saved John ; Ephesians This is not the time to argue with God or give rationalizations for why we did what we did. In other words, we tell God that we have no intention of continuing in particular sin.
We want to turn around and head a new direction. The first time that I ever washed my clothes was after my first week of college. I had other chores that I did at home, but doing the laundry was never one of them. Mom sewed me a canvas bag and told me that when it was full, to go to the laundromat and use a washing machine and close dryer.
I was in a hurry and decided to speed things up by just tossing in a whole duffle bag filled with dirty clothes into the washer. I put money in the slot and turned on the washer. Soon afterward my washer began to jump and wiggle all over the floor.
She lifted the lid and the washer stopped spinning. She then picked up my bag and shook my soaking wet dirty clothes out of the bag and back into the washer. Take them out of the bag next time. My wife, Julie, is a creative genius. Totally right brained, she has difficulty accomplishing last brain tasks—like keeping up with her keys.
Sometimes, she calls me from the shopping mall and frantically tell me that someone has stolen her car. Being an orchestra conductor requires many hours of rehearsals.
I get so tired of it. One afternoon I pulled up beside her car in the church parking lot. I looked in the front seat and the keys were on the front seat and the doors were locked. I went into the church building where Julie was practicing with seven child violinists to lead worship on Sunday. I was so angry that I stormed down the aisle, shaking her keys. Do you know where these were? As I cooled down I began to feel really badly about my behavior.
In fact, it was time for some godly sorrow. I begin to imagine what Jesus was feeling when I stormed down the aisle shaking the keys and yelling at Julie. God put Adam and Eve in the best situation possible in the Garden of Eden. He created them with the ability to choose obedience to Him and safety or disobedience and the loss of His protective garden. He gave them a choice, and yet He knew they would sin. With love and compassion, He cared for them in their shame Genesis In God's great wisdom and sovereignty, He saw that their choices would ultimately bring Him the glory He deserves Psalm ; Isaiah To him be the glory forever!
Without the fall of Adam and Eve, we would never truly know or understand what love actually is 1 John Without the fall of Adam and Eve, we would never have experienced glorious redemption in the saving work of Jesus Christ in a fallen world. Jesus began His earthly ministry by presenting people with that choice: repent and turn to God or remain separated in your sin from God Matthew Every person has a choice to make, as proven by Adam and Eve. Our choice is to love God or reject Him. The value of Adam and Eve's lives was not diminished by their sin—and our value is not diminished by our sin either.
