Therapist Jennifer Leister testified that the three Sanders children are experiencing a lot of stress, anxiety and frustration over their parents' pending divorce. She also said one of the goals of the therapy was to repair the sibling relationship. Early on, the two older boys were aligned with their dad and were often mean to their younger sister, who was more aligned with her mother.
The two boys were also mean to each other and had to be separated during one therapy session. Leister testifed that one of her main concerns is the post-divorce relationship between Deion and Pilar Sanders and whether they will be able to co-parent effectively when they can't communicate well. She also said she was very concerned about their daughter's overwhelming sadness at first but that has since leveled out.
Sometimes the children would be brought to therapy by different parents even though one parent was supposed to have all three children. And there were times when one parent was scheduled to have the kids but the other one would pick them up from school or activities. Leister testified that she was also very concerned about the amount of information the children are learning from media coverage of the case that they are finding online.
